Comparing NATO geography of 1990 and today is like comparing Europe in 1942 with the Europe in 1945. Yes, NATO is closer to Russia today than it was in 1990. Germany was really surrounded by enemies in 1945. Both for the same reason - that they have attacked all its neighbors before. The only difference: The aggressive Germany was destroyed, the aggressive Russia unfortunately was not (yet).
And when we speak about humiliation which Russia has suffered after 1990, what about the humiliation of Germany after 1945 ? Both well justified !
